خواجہ حسن بصری رحمة اللہ تعالٰی علیہ نے بصرہ میں ایک غلام خریدا، وہ غلام بھی ولی اللہ، صاحبِ نسبت اور تہجد گذار تھا-

حضرت حسن بصری نے اس سے پوچھا کہ اے غلام! تیرا نام کیا ہے؟

اس نے کہا کہ حضور! غلاموں کا کوئی نام نہیں ہوتا، مالک جس نام سے چاہے پکارے،

آپ نے فرمایا اے غلام! تجھ کو کیسا لباس پسند ہے؟

اس نے کہا کہ حضور! غلاموں کا کوئی لباس نہیں ہوتا جو مالک پہنا دے وہی اس کا لباس ہوتا ہے،

پھر انہوں نے پوچھا کہ اے غلام! تو کیا کھانا پسند کرتا ہے؟

غلام نے کہا کہ حضور غلاموں کا کوئی کھانا نہیں ہوتا جو مالک کھلا دے وہی اس کا کھانا ہوتا ہے۔

خواجہ حسن بصری چیخ مار کر بیہوش ہوگئے، جب ہوش میں آئے تو فرمایا اے غلام! میں تجھ کو آزاد کرتا ہوں ، میں نے تجھے پیسے سے خریدا تھا مگر اب تجھ کو پیسہ نہیں دینا ہے، میں تجھ کو مفت میں آزاد کرتا ہوں،

غلام نے پوچھا کہ کس نعمت کے بدلے میں آپ مجھ کو آزاد کررہے ہیں؟

آپ نے فرمایا تم نے ہم کو اللہ کی بندگی سکھا دی، تم ایسے غلام ہو کہ اگر مجھے میرا پیسہ دے دیتے تو غلامی کے طوق سے آزاد ہوسکتے تھے لیکن ہم اللہ کے ایسے غلام ہیں کہ سلطنت بھی دے دیں تو بھی خدا کی غلامی سے، طوقِ بندگی سے آزاد نہیں ہوسکتے، ہماری بندگی کا طوق موت تک ہے

وَاعبُد رَبَّکَ حَتّٰی یَاتِیَکَ الیَقِینُ

پس تم نے ہمیں ہمارے اللہ کی بندگی سِکھا دی، اب ہم کو اللہ جو کھلائے گا ہم یہی کہیں گے کہ مالک آپ کا احسان ہے، جوپہنائے گا یہی کہیں گے کہ مالک آپ کا احسان ہے، جس نام سے خدا پکارے گا وہی ہمارا نام ہے، اے غلام! تو نے ہمیں اللہ کی بندگی سکھا دی۔

یہ ہے اللہ والوں کاراستہ کہ جس حالت میں خدا رکھے راضی رہو، رضا بالقضا کا مقام اخلاص سے بھی زیادہ اونچا ہے۔
