::::|| VU ||:::: Islam and being Pious

For those who think that Islam and being pious is all about being serious with a frowned face 24/7; please check this Hadith;

Narrated Ibn Masud: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said,

"Mix with the people on the condition that your Deen is not put into risk, and be jestful with the family."

(Sahih al-Bukhari, Chapter 81 on "To be cheerful with the people")

Jestful here means something that is done or said for amusement or speaking in a joking manner. I know of many seemingly pious people who think that being pious is about being serious all the time, no joke, no smile; these are the people who makes Islam a complex religion; in fact people should rejoice being Muslims.

Make things easy and convenient and don't make them harsh and difficult because Allah the Almighty says; "Allah desires ease for you, and desires not hardship" (2:185)

Being pious does not necessarily mean that you can't joke or mix with different classes of people. Having a good sense of humor is one of the greatest worldly assets a person can have. To all those serious Muslims out there, you should know that the holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) smiled often and would make jokes with the members of his community. But yes, joking should not contain lies and excess laughter which may deaden the heart.

Allah knows best.
